Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has entered into an agreement with Finnish builder Marine Alutech regarding the supply of 15 multi-role combat boats for the German Navy's Seebataillon naval infantry force.
The contract also covers training, documentation, associated equipment and a life cycle support package. BAAINBw said the boats are scheduled to be delivered between 2029 and 2031.
The agency said the procurement supports the Seebataillon's planned role as infantry able to operate afloat in coastal waters and ashore in the adjacent coastal zone. It added that the unit's own tactical mobility on the water is a key requirement for that role.
The boats will each be approximately 20 metres long and have space for troops and their personal equipment in addition to the crew. An integrated bow ramp will allow rapid landings and direct loading and unloading of personnel and materiel at shallow shores.
The Finnish Navy has operated boats of the same the design as the Jehu-class since 2014, with 12 boats commissioned between 2014 and 2016.
