The South Korean Navy has recently received its thirteenth Gumdoksuri-class patrol vessel (PKG-class).
The vessel was built by Hanjin Heavy Industries and launched in late April 2013.
Commissioned this week by the Republic of Korea Navy, the vessel and its sister ships are planned to replace the aging Chamsuri-class patrol vessel fleet.
The 500-tonne missile-carrying PKG-class variant is under construction at both Hanjin and STX shipyards. Measuring 63 metres in length with a beam of nine metres, the vessel is propelled via General Electric gas turbines and waterjets. This powers the vessel to a top speed of 41.5 knots. The vessel is able to carry a complement of 40 personnel.
A smaller 200-tonne PKG-B class of patrol vessel is also under development.
