India has launched the country's first Anti Submarine Warfare Corvette (ASWC) for the Indian Navy.

The vessel was launched on April 19 by M.M. Pallam Raju, Union Minister of State for Defence at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) shipyard. Mr Raju said that three more P-28 Corvettes would be launched by 2015.

The vessel was named 'Kamorta', after an island in the Andaman Sea. It is envisaged as a frontline warship with anti-submarine warfare capabilities and will be docked at the Eastern Naval Command.
