Israel's Haifa Port targeted in latest Iranian missile attack
The Port of Haifa in Israel was the target of a recent daytime attack wherein as many as 23 missiles were launched from Iran, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed on Friday, June 20.
The IDF said it issued an alert soon after it detected the launch of the missiles from Iran on the afternoon (local time) of Friday. Numerous sirens then sounded off in the city of Haifa and in nearby areas warning residents to seek shelter.
Israeli media reported that there were one impact site in the city and another three in the outlying areas, leaving 17 people with varying degrees of injury according to medical sources, though none of the missiles seem to have struck any area within the port itself.
The attack occurred just hours after Danish container shipping company Maersk announced that it had temporarily halted its port calls to Haifa amid the escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran.
