Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has recently launched its fifth frigate for the Korean Navy at its Ulsan shipyard.
Named ROKS 'Jeonbuk', the 114-metre x 14-metre x 25-metre vessel has a maximum speed of 30 knots and a crew of 120.
According to HHI, the vessel features improved weapon and sensor capabilities, with 3D radar, anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles, sonar and torpedo acoustic countermeasures.
Additionally, the vessel uses stealth technology to minimise exposure to electromagnetic waves. With more than 90 per cent of the vessel's major equipment locally developed and sourced, the 2,300-tonne frigate will be delivered to the Korean Navy by December 2014.
HHI delivered the frigate ROKS 'Incheon' in January this year and is also currently building the ROKS 'Gyeonggi', which is scheduled to be delivered by October 2014.
