The first SWATH@A&R-type patrol boat was christened Friday at Abeking & Rasmussen Shipyard in Lemwerder, Germany.

'Skrunda' is the first vessel in a series of five being built in Riga and Lemwerder in cooperation with Riga Shipyard.

The 25-metre vessels feature a modular mission bay at the fore ship. By fitting appropriate mission payloads, such as a diving module or a MCM module, the capabilities of the vessels can be altered depending on requirements.

Up to eight crewmembers can stay for one week at sea even under adverse weather conditions to fulfil the main objectives of the new vessels, mostly the patrol and surveillance of territorial waters as well as participation in international assignments.
