Rescuers find 39th deceased victim of Vietnam tour boat tragedy
Authorities in Vietnam have confirmed the recovery of the body of another victim of a deadly tour boat capsizing incident that occurred in Halong Bay in the country's northeastern province of Quang Ninh earlier this month.
The recovery, which also marks the conclusion of the extensive search and rescue effort, raises the incident's confirmed death toll to 39.
The deceased victim, identified as an adult male, was found approximately 10 kilometres from where the ill-fated tour boat capsized in bad weather in the early afternoon (local time) of July 19. His remains have since been handed over to his surviving family.
The victim's wife and one of their two children also perished in the tragedy while their other child was safely rescued, local news outlet VnExpress International reported.
The unnamed boat was carrying 49 people on the date of the incident as Halong Bay was experiencing heavy rains and strong winds caused by the approach of Storm Wipha towards northeastern Vietnam.
The investigation into the capsizing is still ongoing as local authorities are continuing to extend support to survivors as well as the families of the deceased.
