Indonesian Navy awards contract for new submarine rescue vehicle
Forum Energy Technologies (FET) has executed a contract to supply a new submarine rescue vehicle (SRV) for use by the Indonesian Navy.
The contract covers the delivery of an SRV, a launch and recovery system (LARS), and a decompression system.
The SRV will be a piloted rescue submersible capable of operating at depths of up to 605 metres and carrying 20 people. It will be fully integrated with a hyperbaric rescue facility.
FET said the SRV will also utilise technologies that could locate a distressed submarine and quickly transfer personnel. Advanced sensors and sonar will be fully embedded into the FET systems to deliver advanced functionality, including automatic depth, heading, and piloting capabilities.
Sea trials for the future Indonesian Navy SRV are planned for 2028. The craft will be built at FET’s Kirkbymoorside facility in the UK and the bespoke LARS will be manufactured at FET’s facility in Bryan, Texas.
FET had earlier supplied a 600-metre-capable SRV from the same series to the Vietnam People's Navy.
