Russian yard launches new fire and rescue boat
Russia's Kostroma Shipyard recently launched a new firefighting and rescue boat ordered by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).
The boat belongs to the Project KS-110.2-39 series, the first two examples of which were delivered to the MES' regional offices in Nizhny Novgorod and Leningrad in December last year.
The vessel is of modular design and can be fitted with a range of built-in firefighting and rescue equipment as well as oil spill response gear. Space will also be available for transporting additional response equipment and emergency services personnel.
The boat also has a shallow draught to permit operation in near-shore and coastal waters and for accessing remote areas in which other firefighting vessels cannot navigate due to size restrictions.
A fixed extinguishing system will meanwhile provide additional protection for the entire hull to minimise the risk of damage when operating close to fires on shore or on other vessels.
Because of the boat's modular design, it can be configured with additional compartments for housing rescued survivors. Alternatively, it can be fitted with a cabin featuring only a helm station and no space for passengers, thereby making the boat smaller, lighter, and more manoeuvrable.
