Cochin Shipyard delivers FPV to Indian Coast Guard

Cochin Shipyard has recently delivered the ninth of the series of 20 fast patrol vessels (FPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard. The vessel is named 'ICGS Ameya' and will be operated by the Coast Guard Station at Karaikal.

Cochin Shipyard signed the contract for the construction of the 20 FPVs for the Indian Coast Guard in 2010. The first vessel in the series was delivered in September, 2013, with eight vessels delivered thereafter.

Like its sister ships, 'ICGS Ameya' is a capable speeds of up to 33 knots and will be effective in supporting the Indian Coast Guard in its anti-smuggling, anti-piracy operations, fisheries protection and monitoring.

The vessel was constructed under dual-classification survey to ABS and IRS, with a superstructure made of aluminium. Three main engines power the vessel, each rated for 2,720kW and coupled to waterjets.
