STX Finland to convert Fjord Line ferry
STX Finland and Fjord Line have signed a contract for conversion of the cruise ferry MS 'Bergensfjord'.
The ship will undergo extensive interior changes designed by Norwegian firm Falkum-Hansen Design. Several cabin areas will be converted to public spaces, and duty-free shopping, cafeteria and restaurant facilities are all to be significantly increased.
The four month conversion project will be carried out by STX Finland's Rauma shipyard. The value of the contract is approximately 30 million Euro.
The MS 'Bergensfjord' is 134 metres long and 24 metres wide. The ship was built in Norway in 1993. Following the conversion, the ferry will operate between Sandefjord, Norway, to Strömstad, Sweden.
The ship will finish operations on its present route in late December and will commence new operations following the four month conversion on May 2014. The capacity of the ship after the changes is expected to be 1,770 passengers and 370 cars.
