VIDEO | Remontowa Shipbuilding launches new hybrid ferry for Torghatten Nord
Polish shipbuilder Remontowa Shipbuilding launched a new hybrid-powered Ro-Pax ferry for Norwegian operator Torghatten Nord on July 4. The vessel is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026.
Project Manager Piotr Alboszta stated that the launch went smoothly and according to schedule. “Currently, nearly 80 per cent of all work on the ship is completed, and we will soon be preparing the ferry for harbour acceptance tests, which are scheduled to start in the second half of September,” he said.
The 63.6-metre ferry can accommodate 149 people and 50 cars. It is powered by batteries recharged from shore power, with generators for emergency use. Upon delivery, the vessel will serve the Stornes-Bjørnerå route in the Troms region of Norway.
The ferry was designed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company. This is the latest project in a cooperation between the builder and Torghatten Nord that included the delivery of four LNG-powered ferries, Landegode, Væroy, Barøy, and Lødingen, between 2012 and 2013.
