Tallink passenger numbers rise in Q2 2025
Estonian ferry operator Tallink Grupp transported 1,488,128 passengers in the second quarter of 2025, marking a 2.5 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. The growth was primarily driven by the company's Estonia-Finland route.
Passenger numbers on the Estonia–Finland route increased by 4.9 per cent over the quarter, with a notable 14.8 per cent surge in June alone. The Finland–Sweden route saw steady growth of 2.8 per cent. In contrast, passenger numbers on the Estonia–Sweden route declined by 10.9 per cent, which the company attributed to changes in fleet deployment and scheduling.
While passenger numbers grew, the volume of cargo units transported declined by 22.8 per cent in the quarter to 67,038 units. The number of passenger vehicles carried increased by 1.4 per cent to 212,782 units. Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink, described the freight segment as "more challenging" but stated the company is prepared for an increase in cargo volumes as the economic outlook improves.
During the second quarter, the company also completed the sale of the vessel Star I to Irish Continental Group and chartered out the Romantika to Algeria.
