GNV takes delivery of new Ro-Pax at Guangzhou Shipyard International
GNV, part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Group), has taken delivery of GNV Orion, the second in the series of new ships built at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), following sister GNV Polaris.
The new Ro-Pax is 218 metres long and 29.6 metres in beam, for a capacity of up to 1,700 passengers and 3,080 lane metres of cargo, and a gross tonnage of 52,300.
She also features 418 cabins and 15 luxury suites.
Power for the vessel is provided by four nine-cylinder, medium-speed diesel engines that each produce 10,350 kW (13,880 hp). The engines drive two propellers to deliver a speed of 25 knots at 83 per cent MCR and a range of 3,500 nautical miles.
GNV Orion will enter service in the Mediterranean from next June, operating on the Geneva-Palermo route. GNV said environmental features are expected to result in a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 30 per cent per transportable load compared to the vessels currently in the fleet.
