Spanish transport company Balearia has unveiled plans to open a new ferry route between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico after the summer of 2024.

Balearia plans to provide a daily ferry service over the 214 kilometres between the ports of San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic and Mayagüez in Puerto Rico. It also intends to build a terminal in the port of San Pedro de Macorís and upgrade the one in Mayagüez.

This new service will be Balearia's third route in the Caribbean and its sixth internationally.
