New Zealand shipbuilder Stark Bros is constructing a 16.8-metre steel fishing trawler. The vessel is currently under construction at their Lyttelton shipbuilding facility in New Zealand and due for launching in the second quarter of 2011.
The draught is 2.6 metres to 3.2 metres to allow a much larger 1,800mm propeller to be fitted. The vessel will be fitted out with a Hundested Marine Gear CPG-32 gearbox with a Hundested Variable Pitch 1,800mm diameter four-blade propeller, coupled to a 260kW Scania DI12 59M.
Onboard mechanised handling systems will allow the skipper and two crew to easily handle high volumes of fish, while also maintaining the ability to operate with smaller quantities of traditionally higher value species in New Zealand waters.
