VESSEL REVIEW | Juzhou – Hybrid sightseeing and events vessel built for China's Xiang River

Published on

China’s Jianglong Shipbuilding recently handed over a new sightseeing vessel to local operator Changsha Haishun Amusement Service.

Named Juzhou (橘洲号) after a local island, the vessel has all-steel construction, a length of 49.96 metres (163.9 feet), a beam of 14.8 metres (48.6 feet), a draught of only 1.5 metres (4.9 feet), and a depth of 3.3 metres (11 feet). Up to 500 passengers are transported on three decks that feature spaces such as banquet halls and VIP rooms.

Power is provided by a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system to ensure reduced emissions along its assigned route. Jianglong Shipbuilding said this makes the vessel one of the first 500-passenger electric tour boats in operation on the Xiang River.

Juzhou's main area of operations encompasses the stretch of the Xiang River that passes near the vessel's namesake island and Hunan province’s capital city of Changsha.

The exterior features what the builder calls a combination of ”cyberpunk” and elements reminiscent of a popular hotel in Changsha. The resulting appearance then complements the backdrop provided by Juzhou Island and Yuelu Mountain on the west bank of the Xiang River.

Built to accommodate a variety of onboard activities

The onboard layout can be configured depending on operator requirements. In addition to the standard sightseeing layout that can accommodate significant passenger numbers, layout options include those suitable for private family gatherings, corporate events, and live entertainment.

Juzhou was built in compliance with China Classification Society rules. The vessel will be operated out of the Changsha Juzhou Tourist Wharf.
