Published on

US-based Hornblower Marine Services (HMS) will deploy a second high-speed vessel in the relief efforts in Haiti.

HMS crews will deploy the former Hawaii Superferry, the 'Alakai', a high-speed vessel that, like its sister-ship the 'Huakai', is capable of carrying humanitarian supplies and/or people to and from the affected areas. The 107-metre 'Alakai' is a passenger and vehicle vessel that can travel at more than 30 knots with available seating for in excess of 800 passengers and a cargo deck capacity of 2,300 square metres.

The 'Alakai' was designed and built in the United States by Austal USA, based in Mobile, Alabama.
