In the early morning of February 9, EU NAVFOR received reports that the South Korean fishing vessel 'Golden Wave' had been released from pirate control.

Although the condition of the 43 crewmembers (39 Kenyan, two South Koreans and two Chinese nationals) is not known at this time, EU NAVFOR understands that they are in need of food, water and medical aid.

At the request of the South Korean Government, an EU NAVFOR warship was dispatched to render immediate SOLAS assistance.
The 'Golden Wave', which is also known as the 'Keummi 305', was pirated off the Kenyan coast on October 9, 2010.
