Russian operator to launch hovercraft ferry service in Saint Petersburg

Published on:

Russian ferry and tour boat operator Neva Travel has unveiled plans to launch a new winter ferry service utilising hovercraft in the Neva River in Saint Petersburg.

The launch of the new service will ensure Neva Travel will be able to offer passenger transport services via the Neva River year-round even during ice periods, whereas the company was previously limited to operating only during the summer navigation season from April to November.

Yuri Nabatov, General Director of Neva Travel, said the new hovercraft service will provide an opportunity for both commuters and tourists to admire the numerous attractions of the city of Saint Petersburg even as the Neva River is covered in ice, which would prevent traditional vessels from navigating safely.

The service is scheduled to be formally launched in early 2025. The routes will be served by three hovercraft, each of which can carry up to 10 passengers on trips lasting 25 to 30 minutes.
