Viking Line and TT-Line announced on Tuesday, November 3, that the Ro-Pax ferry Huckleberry Finn will serve their planned route between Vuosaari in Helsinki, Finland, and Muuga near Tallinn, Estonia. The service is due to start in the first quarter of 2027.
The two companies will own equal shares in the 1988-built, ice class 1A vessel. On the route it will offer 2,240 lane metres and capacity for 400 passengers.
Viking Line signed the joint operation agreement with TT-Line on October 5. The arrangement does not create a separate company. Viking Line estimated its investment at approximately €10 million ($11.18 million).
"Demand for efficient transport between Finland and Estonia remains strong. For our customers ample capacity and high reliability are essential," said Viking Line Freight Director Harri Tamminen.
Eckerö Line currently operates the route with Finbo Cargo. That ship is a 2000-built Ro-Pax ferry with 1,950 lane metres and capacity for 366 passengers.
Port of Tallinn reported a record 201,000 passengers on the route in 2024. Vehicle numbers reached almost 153,000 that year, up 23 per cent. Port board member Rene Pärt said in October that freight volumes were, "approaching the limits of what can be handled with a single vessel."
Huckleberry Finn was built by Schichau Seebeckswerft in Bremerhaven. The vessel is 177.2 metres long, has three vehicle decks and has a speed of 18 knots. It previously sailed as Nils Dacke II and Peter Pan IV.
