Canada's Greenline Marine identifies potential landing site for future electric ferries
Canadian transport company Greenline Marine has identified the city-owned dock at Vancouver's Harbour Green Park as a potential landing site for its future fleet of battery-powered commuter ferries.
Greenline said it selected this landing site because it is accessible and would need only minimal modifications to accommodate the new ferries. The company and its partners would pay for the changes to be made to the site.
The Harbour Green Park would remain unchanged, and the dock would stay open and accessible to the public.
A charging facility for the ferries will be installed on a new dock segment. The charging solution is being developed by Greenline in collaboration with BC Hydro.
The Greenline boats will arrive seven times per day, with four journeys from the British Columbia coastal community of Gibsons and three from Bowen Island.
Greenline is working with officials in Vancouver, Gibsons, and Bowen Island as well as provincial and federal representatives to develop the site, which is scheduled to begin accommodating the new ferries in 2027.
The ferries are being developed in partnership with marine engineering firm BMT. Each will measure 32 metres long and will have space for bicycles and 150 passengers including four wheelchair users.
