Brittany Ferries has chartered the Ro-Pax vessel Wexford to operate on its route connecting Cherbourg and Rosslare.
Currently sailing under the name Vizzavona, the ship will replace the chartered freight vessel Norbay starting in March 2027.
The French-flagged ferry will be operating three weekly return crossings between Rosslare and Cherbourg alongside one Portsmouth-Cherbourg rotation.
Brittany Ferries noted that ticket bookings are scheduled to open by the end of next month.
With capacity for up to 500 passengers and 2.41 kilometres of vehicles, Wexford is configured with 146 passenger cabins and deck space for around 130 cars. The ship can also carry 2,500 lane metres of freight.
The charter completes the company's five-ship fleet serving Irish routes. That deployment provides up to seven weekly return sailings between Rosslare and Cherbourg, among others.
The company said that replacing the freight ship Norbay with a Ro-Pax vessel is aimed at restoring passenger capacity on crossings to Normandy.
Chief Executive Officer Christophe Mathieu remarked, “We know there is a strong market for holiday traffic, and this ship will better meet the demands of travellers on both sides of the Irish Sea.”
