Dubai: Eleven hotels, resorts and clubs have met with the Marine Agency to discuss setting up piers to provide water taxi services in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority.

According to MenaFN, the Director of the Maritime Projects Department at the Marine Agency, Khalid Al Zahid, has said that the marine agency has met with representatives from the eleven hospitality establishments to discuss how and when the water taxi service could be launched.

"One of the main topics being discussed is cost sharing between the government and the parties who benefit from the service," Mr Al Zahid was quoted as saying by MenaFN. "This will increase the number of water taxi stations, serving the public as well as hotels."

The service is expected to launch in the middle of 2010. The first phase will see the introduction of ten water taxis.
