MSC Cruises' third LNG-fuelled ship wraps up sea trials
MSC Cruises' latest flagship, MSC World America, has successfully completed her deep-water intensive systems tests during a final sea trial in the Atlantic Ocean.
MSC World America will become MSC Cruises’ 23rd overall ship and the company's third LNG-fuelled ship. The vessel will also be the first in the fleet to feature seven onboard districts that bring together a range of tailored experiences by combining bars, restaurants, entertainment and leisure facilities.
The sea trials checked the performance of the ship's engines, manoeuvrability, fuel consumption, safety systems, speed and stopping distances.
The ship will now receive her final finishing touches at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France before being officially delivered to the cruise line on March 27. It will then be officially named on April 9 at the new MSC Cruise Terminal in PortMiami.
MSC World America is a sister of MSC World Europa, which was delivered in 2022. It has a length of 333 metres and capacity for 6,762 passengers across 21 decks.
The newbuild has been designed with an innovative hull shape to minimise resistance through the water. The ship also incorporates a wide range of equipment to optimise energy use such as smart ventilation and advanced air conditioning systems and LED lighting.
