BBC News reports a horrific collision between a ferry and a cargo ship in the Philippines, with at least 31 casualties and over 150 missing.
The disaster occurred on Friday night near the city of Cebu. More than 600 survivors have been rescued from the Chinese-owned MV 'Thomas Aquinas' following its sinking.
According to the BBC, coast guard and military vessels have been assisting with rescue operations, however progress has been disrupted by rough seas and adverse weather. Citing the coast guard, the news agency reported the vessel was carrying over 700 passengers and over 100 crew on board.
The 11,000 tonne ferry was four decades old, reported the BBC's South East Asia Correspondent Jonathan Head.
