Italy's Aliauro Group has recently delivered a fast ferry to Algeria's state transport company.
In mid-2013, Alilauro reached an agreement with the Algerian government to provide Algeria's national ferry group, Algerie Ferries, with a fast ferry and crew. Alilauro subsequently delivered the 2003-built fast monohull 'Ischiamar III'.
Capable of transporting 350 passengers at a speed of 22 knots, the vessel will carry out connecting services along the Algerian coast, particularly between Algiers and El-Djamila.
The three-month agreement has an option for an additional three months, and is likely to be extended for the remainder of 2014.
An additional four vessels, all of which are similar to 'Ischiamar III', may also be utilised. These vessels will operate on routes from Algiers to four other coastal ports.
As well as providing vessels for charter, the agreement also sees significant knowledge transfer between Alilauro and Algerie Ferries, with the operator providing ticketing services, online and mobile booking support, marketing services, and other assistance.
