16 dead in Bangladeshi ferry accident

Up to 16 people, including 13 children, are dead following reports from a ferry capsize in northeastern Bangladesh on Tuesday, however rescuers are still searching for more bodies.

The accident happened in remote Sunamganj district, 140 kilometres north of the capital Dhaka.

Between 60 and 70 passengers were on board the river ferry when it sank, including about 40 children who were on their way to school. Bad weather created large waves making it difficult for ferries.
