UK-based Union Vega Offshore has ordered two battery-hybrid platform supply vessels (PSVs) from China's Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, with options for an additional four units.

The vessels will be designed by Norwegian naval architecture firm Breeze Ship Design. Delivery of the first PSV is scheduled for 2028.

Each PSV will have a length of 84 metres, a deck area of 900 square metres, a moonpool, and accommodation for up to 44 personnel. The vessels will also be prepared for the future installation of a 50-tonne active heave-compensated crane.

Breeze said the design can serve conventional platform supply needs and is also suited to light construction and operations supporting geophysical and seismic work.

Union Maritime and Vega Maritime launched Union Vega Offshore as a joint venture in April 2026 to pursue offshore growth in West Africa and South America. At the time, Union Maritime named accommodation units, anchor handling tug supply vessels, and light subsea assets as the venture's initial fleet focus.

It also said the dynamic positioning accommodation support vessel Vega Hilton had been delivered to the joint venture and would be upgraded before supporting an oil major's operations in West Africa.
