Petrobras signs $2.8b contracts for the construction and charter of 12 support vessels

Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras said on Thursday it has signed a 16.5 billion real ($2.8 billion) deal to build and charter 12 new support vessels to supply its offshore platforms. Around 5.2 billion reais were earmarked for the building of the vessels by Bram Offshore and Starnav Servicos Maritimos in Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina, Petrobras said in a statement.

The investment is part of a modernization of the Petrobras fleet of support vessels under the company's strategic plan for the 2025-2029 period.

"These new units will not only incorporate the latest in technology, but also represent our commitment to sustainable and innovative best practices. These are projects that meet the highest environmental, social and governance standards, essential for a sustainable future, in addition to generating around 11 thousand direct and indirect jobs", said CEO Magda Chambriard.

The contracts include a period of up to four years for mobilization and 12 years of operation, in addition to the requirement of 40 per cent local content during the construction phase, Petrobras said.

The vessels will be built in the shipyards of the winning companies, located in Santa Catarina, in the municipalities of Navegantes (Bram) and Itajaí (Starnav). Each company will be responsible for chartering six vessels to Petrobras.
