Brazilian operator Starnav Serviços Marítimos formally named its newest platform supply vessel (PSV) in a ceremony on Thursday, September 17.
The PSV Starnav Elektra was acquired through an investment of BRL450 million (US$87 million) as part of a fleet renewal and expansion programme by state-owned energy company Petrobras. Starnav will own and operate the vessel while Petrobras is the long-term charterer.
The vessel was built by local shipyard Detroit. She will be operated at a number of Brazilian oil fields.
Starnav Elektra features battery banks, an anti-fouling system, and an energy consumption monitoring system to help minimise fuel consumption and emissions.
She can also be configured in future to permit operation on low-emission alternative fuels.
"When we use our own fleet, we are saving resources and valuing Petrobras' portfolio," said Petrobras President Magda Chambriard. "This first delivery proves what we promised and fulfiled. There are 48 boats hired by the end of this year. By next year, we will reach a total of 96 vessels, including barges and pushers."
