Bibby Marine has acquired an accommodation barge to add to its current fleet of five such vessels.

ASV Pioneer, which has since been renamed Bibby Pioneer, was originally in built in 2007 as a straight flat deck barge. It later had an accommodation module installed, which Bibby said has made it ideal for use in support of activities in remote locations.

The barge also has boat landing areas and a large deck space. Bibby plans to increase the accommodation space to be able to house around 200 people in single cabins.

The new owner said the barge was also involved in the salvage operation following the 2012 grounding of the cruise ship Costa Concordia.
