Singapore design firm selected for Saudi jackup rig tender
Seatrium Offshore Technology, the offshore jackup designer for Singapore's Seatrium Group, has won an international tender from Saudi Arabia-based International Maritime Industries (IMI) for the supply of equipment and license for a self-elevating drilling unit, which will be named Kingdom 3.
The rig will be the first newbuild vessel to be constructed at IMI's facilities since the yard's opening. This also marks the start of a long-term partnership between Seatrium and IMI on the construction of offshore jackups in Saudi Arabia.
The chosen design for the rig is part of the next generation of jackup designs customised for operational requirements within the MENA region. The rigs will be outfitted with 105 metres of leg and a 680-tonne hook load while utilising advanced cyber systems.
The rig is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping. It was designed to be able to operate in water depths of 100 metres and drill up to 9,000 metres.
