Seadrill has entered into an agreement to sell the newly built jack-up drilling rig 'West Juno' to an undisclosed buyer incorporated in the UK for a total consideration of US$248.5 million.
Seadrill said it expects to record a gain on sale of approximately US$18 million on closing. Closing of the agreement and the transfer of ownership of the unit is scheduled upon completion of the rig's present drilling assignment late second quarter or early third quarter 2011.
Seadrill has also exercised an option to build a new tender barge at the COSCO Nantong Shipyard in China. The new unit, T17, is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2013. Total project price is estimated at US$115 million.
T17 is similar to the two tender rigs Seadrill ordered from COSCO on February 28 this year, with enhanced drilling capabilities allowing for higher drilling efficiency including the advantage of a lightweight drilling equipment set.
