Irish shipbuilder Safehaven Marine has launched the first of their new GRP Windfarm Catamaran Wildcat 53s, named 'Island Tiger'.
The hull design is a larger version of their Wildcat 36/40 design, incorporating the same high buoyancy bow, twin chine catamaran hull form. The new 17-metre catamaran design has a 6.1-metre beam and has been designed as a wind farm support vessel.
The bow area has been designed to accommodate a specially developed fender system from Ocean 3. 'Wildcat 53' has the same heavy duty scantlings as their pilot boats, which are often subject to severe impact in rough weather.
On sea trials 'Island Tiger' achieved a maximum speed of 25 knots, with exceptionally low noise levels of only 67db recorded in the cabin at maximum speed.
