Rolls-Royce has won a £12 million (US$18.9 million) design and equipment contract for a multi-purpose OSV to be built by Beşiktaş Shipyard in Turkey.
The first Rolls-Royce-designed vessel to be built in Turkey, the OSV will be built to the company's new UT 7521 WP design for Norwegian shipowner Myklebusthaug Management.
The vessel will measure 98.9 metres in length overall, with a beam of 21 metres and a deadweight of approximately 6,000DWT.
As well as providing the overall ship design, Rolls-Royce will also provide the vessel's integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment package, including the main engines, azi-pull propellers, bow and stern thrusters, deck machinery, dry bulk system, DP2 dynamic positioning, and the automation and control system.
The vessel will also feature Rolls-Royce's Unified Bridge system, with delivery planned for the second half of 2016.
Patrick Regis, Rolls-Royce's Regional Director for Turkey, said the company had developed strong links with Turkey's shipbuilding industry recently, with several commercial and naval projects underway.
