UK: Built for Turbine Transfers, a subsidiary of Holyhead Towing Company, 'Rhoscolyn Head' is South Boat's eighteenth South Catamaran 47, 15-metre wind farm service vessel (WFSV), and the first to be fitted with the new aft wheelhouse configuration.
The wheelhouse gives a large foredeck area for cargo carrying and efficient cargo transfer to turbines. The vessel has a specially developed MK IV bow fendering and boarding platform. The strong bow platform is fitted with sprung fastening for "give" when landing, and a built out "nib" that fits between the boat landing piles locating the boat, which provides a shorter step off distance to the ladder.
'Rhoscolyn Head' is powered by twin Scania D16 42M 550 kW engines at 2,100rpm, driving through twin disc MGX5135SC quick shift gearboxes to Ultra Dynamics UJ451 UltraJets for maximum thrust when holding station at wind farm turbines.
The passenger saloon incorporates individual crew and pasenger seating for up to 14 in total with sprung safety seats, footrests, storage areas, WC, shower, galley and Eberspacher heating.
