Siemens Gamesa has successfully installed all offshore wind turbines at the Jeonnam 1 offshore wind farm in South Korea.

Located 8.6 kilometres off the coast of Jaeun Island in Jeonnam province, the 96MW project marks Siemens Gamesa's market entry into South Korea's offshore wind sector.

Siemens Gamesa also claims Jeonnam 1 is the first large-scale, privately-led offshore wind farm in the country.

The Jeonnam 1 project is developed jointly by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its fund Copenhagen Infrastructure III (CI III), South Korean energy conglomerate SK Innovation E&S, and Copenhagen Offshore Partners, the exclusive offshore wind development partner to CIP.

Construction on Jeonnam 1 started in early 2023 with turbine installation commencing in September 2024. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin at the wind farm in the first quarter of 2025. When fully operational, the wind farm will provide green electricity to power approximately 60,000 households.

CIP said the project has supported both local communities and the domestic offshore wind power industry in South Korea, through multiple manufacturing and construction contracts with Korean suppliers as well as the use of local ports and facilities.

Jeonnam 1 delivered its first power in November 2024.
