Construction of the company's third offshore wind farm in the Baltic will begin in the summer.

Iberdrola has received authorisation from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) for its Windanker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, which will have 21 wind turbines each with an individual power of around 15 MW.

When it comes into operation in 2026, Windanker, which will involve an investment volume of one billion euros ($1.1 billion), is projected to have an installed capacity of 315 megawatts (MW), which corresponds to the supply of roughly 315,000 homes.

The foundations of the offshore wind farm will begin construction this northern summer.

The Spanish company Windar is manufacturing the 21 foundation structures (monopiles and transition pieces), while Siemens Gamesa will be the company in charge of building the wind turbines.

The Windanker offshore wind farm is a key element in the integrated growth strategy that Iberdrola has two other wind farms in the Baltic Sea: Wikinger, with 350 MW, and Baltic Eagle, with 476 MW. Together, the three will have a capacity of 1.1 GW and will involve investments of around 3.7 billion euros.
