Finland's Tahkoluoto Offshore and city of Pori sign LOI to expand offshore wind project
Tahkoluoto Offshore, the City of Pori and Port of Pori have signed a letter of intent regarding Finland's Pori Offshore Wind Centre project.
The project will develop the Port of Pori and Mäntyluoto area so that its infrastructure is sufficient for the logistics and pre-installation needs of the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm expansion project.
The partners said the letter of intent provides a clear two-year window to implement the necessary investment in the port area.
The Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm, built in 2017 and consisting of 11 turbines, was Finland's first offshore wind farm and the world's first offshore wind farm built on frozen sea.
The Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm is owned by Suomen Hyötytuuli. The expansion project planned by Tahkoluoto Offshore comprises 40 power plants of approximately 15–20 megawatts.
The project area is located in front of Pori, four to 22 kilometres from the shore. Offshore wind turbines will be erected in the area at a depth of 15–45 metres and the estimated construction window of the expansion project is 2027–2029.
