Petrobras-chartered FPSO arrives in Brazil's Mero Field
After leaving China in December 2024, the floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) Alexandre de Gusmão arrived at the Mero field, Libra block, in the Santos Basin off Brazil on Monday, March 3.
Petrobras, which chartered the FPSO from SBM Offshore, expects it to start operating between the second and third quarters of 2025.
Chartered for 22.5 years, the FPSO has the capacity to produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day, in addition to compressing 12 million cubic metres of gas per day.
Petrobras said that, with the arrival of Alexandre de Gusmão, the production capacity installed in the Mero Field will rise by 31 per cent to 770,000 barrels per day.
The field is located in ultra-deep waters up to 2,100 metres some 180 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro State.
Sylvia Couto dos Anjos, Petrobras Director of Exploration and Production, said that Alexandre de Gusmão is the fifth production platform to be installed in the field, joining Pioneiro de Libra, Sepetiba, Marechal Duque de Caxias and Guanabara MV31.
