Amplus Energy selects Canary Islands shipyard for FPSO reactivation
UK-based Amplus Energy has selected Astican Shipyard in Spain's Canary Islands to undertake a major multi-million-dollar work scope in preparation for the redeployment of the floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) Petrojarl I.
The FPSO, which was most recently in operation offshore Brazil, will undergo a critical reactivation and readiness programme at Astican's facilities on Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Amplus Energy acquired Petrojarl I from Altera Infrastructure earlier this year. The FPSO is Amplus' first vessel acquisition, and the company said it is a ready-to-deploy unit capable of meeting immediate and unique customer needs and demands.
Originally built by Japan's Nippon Kokan in 1986, the 215-metre long Petrojarl I is capable of operating in harsh environments. It was operated at 11 fields during its service with Altera.
Amplus remains in active discussions with several field owners and operators regarding Petrojarl I’s next deployment.
The company said the FPSO is well-suited for early production system applications, extended well tests, and standalone marginal field developments.
