Ocean Specialists (OSI), a global provider of specialised subsea technical services and marine operations, recently launched its new Cable Protection Advisory Service, a new consultation offering geared towards designing and implementing proactive submarine cable protection measures in hostile and often unpredictable marine environments.

The new service will help customers prepare for any threats to subsea cables caused by deliberate human interference, especially at a time of mounting geopolitical tension, as well as mitigating the impact of accidental damage and destructive natural forces, such as earthquakes and other underwater volcanic activity.

"Whether trying to safeguard cable networks against deliberate acts of sabotage or other industrial and environmental stressors, today, more than ever, cable operators and owners need 100 per cent situational awareness of the risk profile specifics of any particular route," said OSI President Perry Wright.

"OSI’s Cable Protection Advisory Service is taking a proactive stance to route planning for new cable systems and upgrades to existing routes by assisting operators with a systematic approach to protecting their key subsea assets and making sure that a full suite of contingency plans is in place should any unforeseen event occur."

OSI’s Cable Protection Advisory Service is backed by more than 25 years of experience as a developer of subsea networks and a team of submarine cable SMEs.

The new service line focuses on, but is not limited to, risk analysis and mitigation; cost-benefit analysis; event response plan; stakeholder identification and engagement; cable protection options; and next step planning.
