Boskalis vessels supporting offshore wind farm construction in Taiwan
Dutch marine services company Boskalis has announced that two of its vessels are currently active in Taiwan, supporting the development of the 294.5 MW TPC2 offshore wind farm. The work includes the transportation of foundations and the installation of export cables for the project.
The company's semi-submersible heavy transport vessel, Forte, is transporting twenty pinpiles for the wind farm on its first voyage. The piles, which vary in length between 62 and 90 metres, will serve as foundations for the four-legged turbine jackets that will be installed in a later phase.
To transport all twenty piles in a single trip, the company noted that the vessel made optimal use of its 177-metre-long deck, with the piles loaded in two rows and a second tier placed on top of the first row on the aft deck.
In addition to the foundation transport, Boskalis is also involved in installing the cable for the TPC2 offshore wind farm. The company’s cable-laying vessel, Ndurance, is installing two export cables with a total length of 42.5 kilometres, which will connect the offshore wind farm to the Taiwanese electricity grid.
