Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has successfully verified the presence of oil in the deepwater of Ceará Basin during drilling operations of  the well 1-BRSA-1080-CES (1-CES-158).

The well, commonly known as Pecém, is located 76 kilometres away from the county of Paracuru on the Ceará state coast at a water depth of 2.1 kilometres

The well's current depth is 4.4 kilometres and the drilling shall continue down to 5.5 kilometres.

The estimated hydrocarbon column is 290 metres, with 140 metres of reservoir.

Petrobras operates the BM-CE-2 concession with a 60 per cent stake, in consortium with BP Energy do Brasil, which holds the remaining 40 per cent.

The consortium will continue drilling operations to the estimated depth  as well as check the extension of the new discovery and define the permeability and porosity of the reservoirs.
