UK: Aberdeen-based North Star Shipping has taken delivery of its latest vessel, an Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) IMT978 PSV design, 'Grampian Talisker'.

Launched at Astilleros Balenciaga in Northern Spain in April and recently delivered to go on charter to BP for North Sea service, she joins her sister vessel the 'Grampian Talisman', which has now been in service for over a year.

Both vessels are designed for multi role service allowing them to combine their main supply duty with a standby role.

North Star Shipping is currently building five other vessels to OSD designs, an IMT960 multi-role tanker assist vessel and four IMT948 ERRVs.

The IMT978 design has outstanding sea keeping qualities due to its 'S' bow design.  Both vessels are DP2 compliant, making use of two 1,980kW main engines driving CPP propellers along with four 590kW tunnel thrusters. This makes the vessels extremely flexible for deployment and ensures maximum crew comfort in even in the most exposed North Sea conditions.

With an overall length of 78.2 metres and a beam of 17 metres, the IMT978 has a summer deadweight of 3,890 tonnes and a deck load area of 739 square metres suitable for 1,000 tonnes of deck cargo.
