PSV adapted for aquaculture use to return to offshore sector following conversion

Italy-based marine geosciences and offshore construction company Next Geosolutions Europe and Norwegian shipyard Green Yard Kleven have entered into a collaboration agreement for the conversion of the vessel NG Explorer into a seabed survey platform.

The vessel is 58 metres long and 14 metres wide with a draught of 4.5 metres. Next Geosolutions said the dimensions make her suitable for operation in shallow waters.

Originally built in 2010 as a platform supply vessel, she has recently been used in aquaculture but will now be rebuilt for operations in the offshore energy sector, specifically for geophysical, geotechnical, environmental and unexploded ordnance seabed investigations.

The ship will be equipped with a new accommodation module to increase onboard personnel capacity, as well as meeting rooms, a control room, and offices. She will also be fitted with a launch and recovery system for remotely operated vehicles.

At the stern, an A-frame and various other deck equipment will be installed. The entire ship will be upgraded to enable operation in high-temperature waters.

All equipment and materials removed from the vessel will either be reused in this conversion, repurposed for other projects at the yard, or sold.

Green Yard Kleven has previously been involved in converting this vessel for another owner. The upcoming conversion works are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
