Sonatrach signs MoU with Mauritania to promote oil and gas development
Algeria's Sonatrach Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company with a view to promoting the Mauritanian oil sector.
The MoU focuses on cooperation in onshore and offshore exploration and production activities, as well as on the exchange of expertise and information, the study of opportunities for the creation of specialised laboratories and the possibility of building infrastructure for the transport and storage of hydrocarbons and petroleum products.
The MoU also provides for the examination of the possibility of supplying Mauritania with hydrocarbons and petroleum products, as well as the feasibility study for the creation of a joint company for the development of the downstream oil sector.
The companies said this protocol would encompass the sharing of technological knowledge, the development of a joint research programme on green and white hydrogen, as well as on alternative energy sources.
This protocol also aims to strengthen the professional skills of the employees of the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company through training and support provided by Sonatrach experts.
"This memorandum of understanding constitutes a qualitative step forward in the energy cooperation process between Algeria and Mauritania and opens up vast prospects for joint investments," said Sonatrach.
"It also reflects Sonatrach's ambition to expand its activities on a continental scale and to affirm its role as a major player in the energy sector."
