Norway's AF Gruppen, through its subsidiary AF Offshore Decom and in a consortium with Heerema Marine Contractors, has secured an engineering, preparation, removal and disposal contract from an unnamed North Sea operator for a platform on the UK continental shelf.
The facility comprises a steel structure with topsides weighing approximately 23,000 tonnes and a supporting structure of around 12,000 tonnes.
The contract is the third awarded to the consortium by the client in the past year and includes an option to remove selected conductors and subsea structures.
AF Gruppen said offshore platform surveys will begin immediately, followed by detailed engineering and offshore preparatory work over the next eight years.
The facility will subsequently be removed as part of a multi-year campaign using vessels operated by Heerema Marine Contractors.
The structures will then be transported to AF Environmental Base Vats for onshore dismantling, recycling and disposal, with the work expected to take place over the next decade.
