Olympic Subsea awards contract for design work on new construction vessels

Published on:

Olympic Subsea has awarded Kongsberg Maritime a contract for design work on two new subsea construction vessels in a series.

Both vessels will be methanol-ready and will feature battery hybrid technology. These will be designed in close cooperation with the customer.

The extensive package of integrated technology from Kongsberg Maritime will include rim-drive electric azimuth propulsion, retractable azimuth bow thrusters, switchboards, and thruster drives.

Hybrid battery power, an integrated bridge system, automation and control systems, a dynamic positioning system, tank sounding, mooring winches, and an overhead ROV launch and recovery system (LARS) will also be included.

The vessels will be built for multiple purposes and optimised for advanced offshore operations under extreme conditions. Olympic Subsea will operate the vessels in both the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors.

Construction of the vessels will take place at China Merchants Heavy Industry's Shenzhen facilities. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the summer of 2027.
